Coaching Supervision
How do you ensure that you are not carrying aspects of a previous meeting into your next coaching session?
As a coach, what blind spots have recently come into focus to help you enhance your coaching practice?
According to the Association for Coaching, supervision is a formal and protected time for facilitating a coach’s in-depth reflection on their practice with a coaching supervisor. Supervision offers a confidential framework within a collaborative working relationship in which the practice, tasks, process, and challenges of the coaching work can be explored.
The primary aim of supervision is to enable the coach to gain in ethical competency, confidence, and creativity to ensure best possible service to the coach, client, Coaching sponsors, and wider society.
Supervision is not a ‘policing’ role, but rather a trusting and collegial professional relationship establish coach and coach supervisor to reflect from a range of different lenses on the coaches practice and interactions. I often find both a Supervisor and Supervisee that the reflective learning with a fellow coaching professional adds extra depth to my own coaching practice.
Coaching Supervision is ideal for:
- Internal coaches.
- Team coaches.
- Agile coaches.
- Professional coaches in private practice.
- Leaders trained in coaching skills and adopting a coaching approach.
- New Coaches undergoing their training and qualifications.
Benefits of Coaching Supervision
- Bringing new ways of thinking as a coach, different coaching approaches or interventions to your client
- Helping your client to see more in the situations they are facing, mirroring the way supervision helps coaches to “see more”.
- Understanding how our approaches impact ourselves, our clients, and the systems that we are operating in.
- Understand our best selves more deeply and our impact on society.
- Recognise our shadow selves and how we can cast light on this so we can serve people more effectively.
